Today we celebrate the feast of the Ascension – when Jesus went up, body and soul, into Heaven. Forty days after Jesus rose from the dead, He took his disciples up to a big hill and told them that He was going to send the Holy Spirit to them soon. Then He went up into the sky and disappeared behind the clouds.

At first it seems kind of sad that Jesus left his friends, doesn’t it? But how could they be sad when Jesus was returning with joy to His Father in Heaven?

Sometimes we are sad when somebody we love dies or moves away, and that’s okay. We can’t stay with our friends forever in this world, but we will in Heaven. Jesus is there waiting for us to come and live forever with Him and all our friends.

So today we should celebrate Jesus’ going into Heaven, and remember that He has gone ahead of us to make a place ready for us when we die.
